MENTORING SCHEMES

FilmOffaly introduced a mentoring programme in 2020, the programme aims to support and develop Offaly's film professionals, ensuring that we have a strong, growing indigenous industry. FilmOffaly  (Offaly County Council Arts Office) has supported the development of Offaly's film professionals through the years in numerous ways including but not limited to FilmOffaly Short Film Award, Professional Artist Support Grant (Offaly Arts Office) and the Arts Act Grants.

Understanding that the needs of the industry were changing FilmOffaly undertook a Needs Analysis to determine what our film professionals requirements were. In answer to this we are developing three mentorship/training programmes.

In 2020 we expanded to incorporate a Film Mentoring Programme. We three elements:-

Script Mentoring : -  In 2020 four Offaly writers were accepted and mentored by script writer Helen Flanagan. The script mentoring program is continuing in 2021 with new mentees for further information follow this link  (applications now closed for 2021).

Short film Mentoring/Shadowing:- Introduced in 2021, we combined our FilmOffaly Short Film Award with an opportunity to provide valuable mentoring, training and shadowing opportunities. For more information follow this link. (Applications are currently open until August 13th 2021 at 5pm for mentees).

Professional Development Training Modules and Workshops:- Each year FilmOffaly in collaboration with OFFLine Film Festival holds a series of development workshops, these continue to be successful.  We are also excited to be currently involved in discussions with the Laois Offaly Education Training Board (LOETB) and Screen Skills Ireland with a view to incorporating specific training schemes and modules into the LOETB programmed. We piloted one such programme in 2020 (see here for further details)
