FILMOFFALY SHORT FILM AWARD 2024 CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
(update now closed)

FilmOffaly announces a call for applications for the 2024 Short Film Award

FilmOffaly is delighted to announce its Short Film Award 2024. This year’s award sees an increase in available funding to €12,000. The award’s main initiative is to encourage creative and resourceful filmmaking in Offaly.  The scheme seeks submissions that are unique, with original stories by talented new filmmakers and film professionals. The only stipulation is that the filming must take place in Offaly!

Since 2008 this award has gained an excellent reputation for funding quality productions, many of which have gained significant attention on the international and national festival film circuit. The genres of thriller, comedy, horror period and documentary have all been represented. Characters from the wonderful winning scripts have been portrayed by known screen names such as Brendan Gleeson, Michael Hough and Darragh O’Toole. Emer Durcan of Western Front Studios, our 2023 winner, states “It was an absolute pleasure filming our short film A Simple Killing in Offaly. We were fortunate enough to do our shoot in Shinrone, in the beautiful location of Bellefield House and Gardens. Paul Smyth and everyone there were just so accommodating and understanding of film production. The whole community was so generous and helpful. I would definitely use County Offaly for future film shoots. We were grateful to be selected for last year's bursary. It is such a great platform for emerging filmmakers and we wish the best of luck to all this year's film bursary applicants”.

Offaly County Council’s Arts Officer Sally O’Leary said, “The FilmOffaly Award has had a huge impact on the development of film and the level of film activity taking place in Offaly since the award’s inception. County Offaly has much to offer film makers with a unique and diverse landscape, a network of resources and importantly an enthusiasm for welcoming filmmakers to discover all the county has to offer.”
